The species has rather isolatedtaxonomical position among its Asian congeners. Formally it may be comparedwith other microphyllous Vaccinium speces like V.chaetothrix Sleumer, V. moupinenseFranchet, V. nummularia Hook.f. & Thomson ex C.B.Clarke, and V. sikangenseY. C. Yang. However, our palnt strickingly differs in minute narrowly ovate tobroadly lanceolate spirally arranged leaves and long creping plagiotropic stemswith rather short ascending branches. Flowers commonly solitary, corollabroadly ovoid to almost globular, white. Species name refers certainresemblance shoots of our plant and leafy stems of Empetrum nigrum L.
