Remnants of primary broad-leaved and coniferous forest on ridge tops and on very steep slopes and cliffs of rocky ridges and mesae composed with light gray solid marble-like highly eroded crystalline limestone. Creeping lithophyte and occasionally epiphyte. Leaves deep green above, deep violet below. Occasional. No HAL 5465 9 June 2004.

Pseudotsuga, Acer and Taxus dominants along ridge and below peak at
elev. 1100-1200 m (about 23°07′N 105°02′E). Frequent lithophyte. All
parts deep purple.

Flowered in cultivation at 31 August 2009. Primary closed evergreen broad-leaved gnarled stunted forest along rocky ridge composed with solid marble-like highly eroded crystalline limestone at elevation 600-800 m a.s.l. Creeping epiphyte (Phyllanthus sp., Nageia fleuryi, Pistacia cucphuongensis, Memecylon sp., Alstonia guangxiensis, Garcinia sp., Quercus sp.)in deep shade. Rare. No HAL 5963 20 January 2005.
