Northern Vietnam, Ha Giang Prov., Quan Ba Distr., Can Ty Municipality,

in the vicinity of Sin Suoi Ho village at right side of Mien River,

about 1 km to the N from point 23ø07'12''N, 105ø00'52''E. Primary

coniferous forest with Pseudotsuga brevifolia on remnant highly eroded

limestone ridge at elev. 1000-1200 m a.s.l. Terrestrial herb among

mossy rocks. Leaves deep violet to deep green with violet stripes.

Flowers light green, with violet tint to dull pink-violet. Very

common.

vicinities of Ngan Chai village, 6 km to W of Yen Minh town (N 23ø07'

E 105ø08'). Primary evergreen wet mossy mixed forest (with domination

of Tsuga chinensis and Pinus kwangtungensis) along tops of karst

remnant limestone ridge at 1500-1600 m elev. Terrestrial and

lithophyte herb in mossy shady places. Leaves pink-purple or green

with purple-violet longitudinal stripes. Flowers: tepals dull pinkish,

lip light yellowish-green. Not rare.

village (20º54'01''N, 105º04'19''E). Primary broad-leaved evergreen

forest on steep slopes of remnant highly eroded limestone ridge at

elev. 800-1000 m a.s.l. Terrestrial herb on steep shady rocky slope.

Leaves light green with violet-purple venation. Flowers: lip dull

yellowish-green, tepals yellowish-green with purple-violet tint. Very

common.

Remnants of primary broad-leaved evergreen closed wet forest on very

steep slopes and cliffs of rocky ridges and mesae composed with solid

marble-like stratified limestone.

Lithophytic herb on steep slope. Flowers yellowish-green with

pink-brown tint. Occasional.

N. Vietnam, Prov. Cao Bang, distr. Tra Linh, municipalite Quoc Toan, vicinity of Thang Heng and Lung Tao villages near Thang Heng lake. Open dry primary mixed forest with domination of Keteleeria fortunei on tops of limestone mesas and ridges at 800-850 m alt. Terrestrial and epilitic herb on rocky steep rather open slopes near

tops of mesas. Flowers light greenish-yellow with pink tint. Leaves pink. Not rare.

M. tixieri maybe close to M. octodentata (according to Averyanov 2013). But clearly differs by M. tixieri has ovate sepals (vs M. octodentata has narrowly tepals).
