FLORA OF VIETNAM Ericaceae Rhododendron sp. Ha Giang prov., Quan Ba distr., Bat Dai Son Nature Reserve, Bat Dai Son commune, Pai Chu Phin village, around point 23º07ʹ54.9ʺN 104º59ʹ24.1ʺE, 1000-1220 m a.s.l., karstic, highly eroded mountains composed of solid marble-like limestone, primary evergreen broad-leaved and coniferous (with Pseudotsuga sinensis) humid forest on steep rocky slopes near mountain tops. Small dwarf creeping epiphyte undershrub on mossy trees or occasionally lithophyte on rocky mountain top. Very common. 16 April 2018, L. Averyanov, Nguyen Sinh Khang, Chuong Quang Ngan, T. The species has rather isolatedtaxonomical position among its Asian congeners. Formally it may be comparedwith other microphyllous Vaccinium speces like V.chaetothrix Sleumer, V. moupinenseFranchet, V. nummularia Hook.f. & Thomson ex C.B.Clarke, and V. sikangenseY. C. Yang. However, our palnt strickingly differs in minute narrowly ovate tobroadly lanceolate spirally arranged leaves and long creping plagiotropic stemswith rather short ascending branches. Flowers commonly solitary, corollabroadly ovoid to almost globular, white. Species name refers certainresemblance shoots of our plant and leafy stems of Empetrum nigrum L.

Ha Giang prov., Quan Ba distr., Bat Dai Son Nature Reserve, Thanh Van commune, Mo Sai village, around point 23º07ʹ46.4ʺN 104º57ʹ56.2ʺE, at elevation 1000-1190 m a.s.l., karstic, highly eroded mountains composed of solid marble-like limestone, primary evergreen broad-leaved and mixed (with Pseudotsuga sinensis) humid forest on steep rocky slopes near mountain tops. Small creeping epiphyte of mossy tree on mossy rocky mountain top. Not common. 18 April 2018, L. Averyanov, Nguyen Sinh Khang, Chuong Quang Ngan, T. Maisak, VR 356. Flowered in culture in July 2018. Flowers white.
