Northern Vietnam, Lao Cai Prov., Van Ban Distr., to the west of Nam Xay village (1 km to the W of point 21°59′00′'N, 104°02′00′'E). Primary broad-leaved evergreen montane forest with Fokienia hodginsii (as emergent) on granite and quartzite very steep slopes at elev. 1600 m a.s.l. Terrestrial fern on steep shady slope. Common, especially at elev. 1300-1640 m a.s.l. HAL 2203 09 March 2002
