Cao Bang Prov., Bao Lac Distr., Hong An municipality, Mi Lung village. Primary broad-leaved and mixed humid evergreen forest on very steep slopes and along rocky ridge composed with solid crystalline highly eroded limestone at elevation 1500-1550 m a.s.l. around point 22°50’01.3’’N 105°50’05.7’’E. Tree 20-30 m tall along mountain tops. Very common. Usual dominant of mixed and coniferous forest. Widewly logged.

Highly degraded remnants of coniferous forest with Pseudotsuga sinensis and Tsuga chinensis on very steep rocky slopes and along tops of rocky remnant ridges composed with highly eroded marble-like limestone. Tree up to 15 m tall. Co-dominant of coniferous forest.

Highly degraded remnants of coniferous forest with Tsuga chinensis on very steep rocky slopes and along tops of rocky remnant ridges composed with highly eroded marble-like limestone. Young treelet 3-4 m tall. Not rare.

Primary fractionaly logged coniferous forest with Pseudotsuga sinensis along highly eroded rocky limestone ridge at elevation 1150-1250 m a.s.l. Shrub 203 m tall on rather open rocky slope. Flowers white with light purple tint. Very common, particularly among open secondary scrub.

Tree to 15 m tall along mountain ridge and on high part of mountain slope. Very common, main dominant of the forest.

Tree to 7 m tall and 10 cm DBH on mountain tops. Very common. Usual co-dominant of coniferous forest.

Extensively logging.

Remnants of primary broad-leaved and coniferous forest on ridge tops and on very steep slopes and cliffs of rocky ridges and mesae composed with light gray solid marble-like highly eroded crystalline limestone. Tree 6-10 m tall. Not common due to total logging. Former co-dominant of primary closed coniferous forest that extinct here 15-20 years ago.

Tree 15-20 m tall on rocky places along plateaus cliff. Not rare. Former dominant of primary forest.

Son La Prov., Van Ho Distr., Van Ho comm., Hua Tat village, around point 20°46’21.7N 104°47’47.5E. Remnants of primary evergreen broad-leaved and mixed forest (with Pinus wangii) on very steep rocky slopes and on mountain tops composed with highly eroded karstic light gray marble-like limestone at elevation 1300-1350 m a.s.l. Tree to 25 m tall and 80 cm DBH on rocky ridge edge. Still common. Former first stratum forest co-dominant. Logged widely. Regeneration very poor. Only 1 seedling was seen.
