Bac Kan Prov., Ba Be Distr., Ba Be National Park, on mountains near headquarter. Secondary broad-leaved dry forest on very steep rocky slopes of remnant mountains composed by solid marble-like crystalline limestone at elevation about 300 m a.s.l. Terrestrial and lithophytic herb with thick semi-woody creeping underground rhizome in shady places. Leaves very dark green, to almost black, fleshy, coriaceous. Locally common.

Lam Dong Province, Bao Loc City Area, old secondary dry evergreen broad-leaved and mixed (with Pinus kesiya) submontane forest on granite at elevation about 1000 m a.s.l. on top of hill. Ninh Binh Province, Cuc Phuong National Park, 20°15'N 105°42'E, 160 m, evergreen forest on undulating ground prone to flooding, in a sticky clay-like soil surrounded by limestone outcrops, a species with conspicuously vertical rhizomes covered in yellowish-gray fiber, supported by many long stilt-like roots, some plants bearing green fruit at the base of the terminal leafy shoots, growing with Ophiopogon and Peliosanthes species, as well as several other species of Aspidistra including A. superba, both growing on the higher parts of the undulation, 20.01.2018, Bleddyn Wynn-Jones, BWJ 15705.

Ninh Binh Province, Cuc Phuong National Park, 20°15'N 105°421'E, 160 m, evergreen forest on undulating ground prone to flooding, in a sticky clay-like soil surrounded by limestone outcrops, growing with Ophiopogon and Peliosanthes species, as well as several other species of Aspidistra including A. zhangii, both growing on the higher parts of the undulation, 20.01.2018, Bleddyn Wynn-Jones, BWJ 15702.

Note. Opening flower the midlobe margin revolute like a star. 2 Keels on labellum, keels on midlobe simple fimbriate, keel on lip at base branched fimbriate. Lip midlobe and front side lobes fimbriate.

Eria yanshanensis S.C.Chen

Plant of unknown origin (central Vietnam?) cultivated in Da Lat Town, Lam Dong Province, 15 June 2020, Truong Ba Vuong, Phan Trong Quyet, BV 680 (voucher herbarium specimen – VNM).

Note. Looks slightly different from E. yanschanensis:

1. In Fl. of China: disk with a central, suborbicular lamella ca. 0.7 mm tall in basal half, Vietnam species has 2 lamellae from base to middle, epichile with 5-6 clavate hair lines

2. Dorsal sepal shortly acuminate, Vietnam: subacute, sepals and petals slightly longer and broader.

Plants with and without spotting on foliage, some plants with seed capsules covered with echinate hair, collected living plants flowering over several months from June to November.

Kon Tum prov., Ngoc Linh mountain, mountain evergreen forest at elevation about 1700 m a.s.l. Collected by Mr. Do Phu Thinh in 2015. Flowered in March - April. Flowers white with light greenish tint, petals with 1 median dirty violet stripe; lip with dirty violet margin. 28 April 2015 AL 034 2 living plants. Coll.: L.Averyanov, T.Maisak, Nong Van Duy (collected in garden of Mr. Do Phu Thinh).

Fl. in 24 June 2015. Flowers white, with strong very pleasant fragrance; petals with violet margin and violet median stripe; lip violet along margin, with yellow-brown hairy spot in the center and green glabrous glossy callus in hypochile, hypochile and side lobes inside with thick dense mealy deposits of white pseudopollen grains; column and column foot olive-green, column apex and anther white; pollinia yellow.
