Remnants of primary and secondary broad-leaved evergreen forest on highly eroded rocky limestone hills at elevation 100-200 m a.s.l. around point 19°50’47.2’’N 105°14’42.7’’E.
Epiphyte on shady very steep rocky slope. Common.

N.Vietnam, Cao Bang Prov., Trung Khanh Distr., Ngoc Khe Municipality, Pac Nga village, around point 22º54'59''N, 106º31'44''E, at elevation 700-800 m a.s.l. Closed secondary and remnants of primary broad-leaved evergreen forest on very steep rocky slopes of rocky ridges and mesae composed with light gray solid marble-like highly eroded crystalline limestone. Epiphyte. Flower buds white-pinkish. Locally common.

N.Vietnam, Ha Giang Prov., Quan Ba Distr., Can Ti Mun., vic. of Sing Xuoi Ho village, 23°04”N, 104°59”E, 26.2 km to 2° of Ha Giang city, 1100-1150 m. Primary closed evergreen mixed wet mossy forest with Xanthocyparis, Taxus, Nageia and Pseudotsuga along tops of karst remnant limestone ridge. Epiphyte. Rare.
Flowers (under cultivation) odorless; sepals and lateral petals yellow-brown, warty outside, brown-chocolate inside; lip white, light brown-yellowish at the base; midlobe deep purple-violet, striped with white; side lobes white, yellow at the base, with violet tint at the apex; column light violet; anther cup white, pollinia brightly yellow, scape and flower bracts dull green mottled with dirty purple, pedicel and ovary green flushed with purple. 12 X 1999, N.T.
