peak in Pa Co; trail from building approx. 2 km, then up ridge. Collections from highly impacted forest close to

logging, all large valuable trees removed and no valuable orchids left. Forest on limestone between 20.45.37 N, 104.53.37 E, 1344m to peak at 20.45.41 N, 104.53.59 E at 1400m. Collected with N.T. Hiep, L.V. Averyanov, B. Hall, P.H. Hoang, N.Q. Hung and T.V. Thao. 20°45'37"N 104°53'37"E 1344 - 1400 m 20°45'41"N 104°53'59"E

Rare at site; sterile plants light green-yellow.

N. Vietnam, prov. Son La, distr. Moc Chau, municipality Chieng Hac, vicinities of Co Liu village (N 20º51' E 104º38'). Remnants of primary evergreen broadleaved forests on vertical limestone bluffs along Xap river canyon at 550-600 m elev. Lithophyte forb on shady vertical limestone cliffs of N exposition. Flowers dull yellow; tepals and lip inside with few sparsely purple smallest dots. Leaves pale green with fine white tessellation above, dirty purple-violet spotted below. Not rare on inaccessible vertical bluffs.

N. Vietnam, prov. Quang Ninh, distr. Hon Gai, Halong bay, Dan Go island. Secondary broadleaved evergreen forest on steep limestone slopes and vertical bluffs on elevations 0-100 m above s.l. Lithophyte forb on vertical shady cliffs of N exposition. Leaves fine light-green/whitish tessellated from above; light greenish, fine spotted with violet from below. Flowers fine apple-sweet smelled, sepals, petals and lip dull yellow, with numerous smallest purple marks. Not rare.

Remnants of primary evergreen broad-leaved forest on very steep rocky slopes and on tops of remnant mountain composed with highly eroded marble-like solid crystalline limestone at elevation 1150-1250 m a.s.l. Rosulate lithophytic herb on shady mossy rocky outcrops and on on vertical mossy cliffs. Not rare.

Broad-leaved and coniferous (with Pinus kwangtungensis and Calocedrus rupestris) evergreen forest on steep slopes and on tops of ridge composed with rocky crystalline solid marble-like highly eroded limestone at elev. 1100-1300 m a.s.l. Clustering lithophytic herb on mossy open rocks along ridge edge. Common. Tree up to 20 m tall. Main dominant of coniferous forest along ridge edge and on ridge tops.

Remnants of primary broad-leaved evergreen lowland forest on rocky remnant highly eroded solid marble-like limestone hills and low mountains with very steep slopes and vertical cliffs. Lithophytic rosulate herb on mossy vertical cliffs. Flowers light to bright yellow with very small purple-brownish marks. Not common.

Lithophyte (and occasionally epiphyte near ground) on steep rocky slope near mountain top. Leaves dark/light tessellated above, dark purple –violet spotted below. Flowers light yellow to almost white, finely purple spotted. Locally common.

Lithophytic herb on open mossy rocks near mountain top. Not common.

Highly destroyed primary closed evergreen broad-leaved submontane forest on rocky crystalline marble-like rocky limestone at elevation 1100-1200 m a.s.l. Lithophytic rosulate herb on shady vertical cliff near top of mountain in association with P. dianthum and P. malipoense. Not common.

Primary broad-leaved evergreen forest on very steep rocky slopes of remnant mountain composed with highly eroded solid crystalline limestone at elevations 1500-1750 m. Lithophytic rosulate herb adpressed on shady vertical cliffs. Leaves dark/light green tessellated above, dirty purple-brown spotted below. Common at elev. 1600 to mountain top.

Selectly logged primary closed evergreen broad-leaved submontane forest on rocky crystalline marble-like rocky limestone at elevation 950-1000 m a.s.l. Lithophytic rosulate herb on vertical shady limestone cliff of NNE exposition near ridge tops. Leaves mottled with dark green / light silvery light green, dirty purple spotted below. Rarely scattered juvenile samples remained after collecting of mature plants. Common before commercial collecting. Growing in dense clones in 20-40 samples on square approximately 2 x 2 m.

Vietnam, Dak Nong Prov., Dak Glong Distr., Dak Plao Municipality, steep mountain slopes of Ta Dung mountain system at elevation 600-800 m a.s.l. around point 11º52’14’’N 107º59’34’’E. Secondary dense broad-leaved evergreen wet forest with bamboo on steep rocky W faced stream slopes composed with crystalline highly metamorphosed sandstone. Terrestrial and lithophytic rosulate herb in shady places and rocky cliffs. Leaves dark – light green tessellated. Locally common.

S.Vietnam, Lam Dong Prov., living collection of Dalat Biology Institute. Also common in sale in local market in Dalat town. Primary broad-leaved evergreen mountain forest at 1000-1400 m elev. to the SE of Dalat city along boundary with prov. Ninh Tuan (origin of plants should be verified).

Flowers odourless: central sepal white, at the middle light pink-violet, with numerous longitudinal deep green stripes and few small sylver warts near the base; synsepalum white at the middle with hadly visible violet tint and green longitudinal stripes; lateral petals green in basal half, with white stripes, apical half dull pink-violet, petals with few black-brown spots and warts along upper margin, hairiness black-brown; lip olive-green, with dull dirty-violet.

Collected in the wild: N. Vietnam, Son La Prov., Moc Chau Distr., Dong Sang Municipality, village Ba Phach, 20ø49'N, 104ø39'E, 1000-1100 m a.s.l., south-east slope of limestone mountains, vertical bluffs near top. Scattered or clustered in small groups in heavily logged evergreen tropical seasonal broad-leaved submontane forest, lightly shaded vertical cliffs, grows in cracks or narrow shelves. Trees are Acer sp., Lithocarpus spp., Quercus spp., Polyalthia sp., Pistacia weinmannifolia, Schefflera pes-avis, Phyllanthus spp., Quercus spp., one species of Sapotaceae, etc. Ferns are Cyrtomium hemionitis, C. pachyphyllum, Polystichum sp., Pteris deltodon. Some Begonia spp., Carex phankei, Urticaceae, etc. Plant distribution was very limited.

Cultivated at Hanoi, Tuan Anh nursery.

Lithophytic herb 20-30 cm tall, scattered or clustered in small groups in heavily logged evergreen tropical seasonal broad-leaved submontane forest on lightly shaded vertical cliffs, in cracks or narrow shelves of south-east slope of limestone mountains near the ridge top. Dorsal sepal brownish red with white margin and without darkish dots. Main forest dominantes are Acer sp., Lithocarpus sp.sp., Quercus sp.sp., Polyalthia sp., Pistacia weinmannifolia, Schefflera pes-avis, Phyllanthus sp., Quercus sp.sp., Sapotaceae, etc. Common ferns and herbs in understory are Cyrtomium hemionitis, C. pachyphyllum, Polystichum sp., Pteris deltodon, Phaphiopedilum dianthum, Begonia sp.sp., Carex phankei, and Urticaceae sp.sp. Rare with very limited distribution.
