Lithophyte and terrestrial herb in shady places on mountain tops. Not common.

Broadleaved evergreen primary dry open forest on tops of limestone mesas at 600-650 m alt. Terrestrial and epilitic rosette herb on steep slopes and bluffs. Leaves with gren - light-green tesselation above, with numerous purple-violet small marks below. Not common, occurring at 500-650 m alt.

Primary evergreen wet mossy mixed forest (with domination of Tsuga chinensis and Pinus kwangtungensis) along tops of karst remnant limestone ridge at 1500-1600 m elev. Terrestrial, lithophyte and occasionally epiphyte (growing on mossy stems of old trees near the base) herb. Leaves deep green/white tessellated above, dirty violet spotted below. Flowers of typical coloration. Very common. Usual codominante of lithophyte herb communities.

Lithophyte. Rarely flowering, upright tepal green, lateral with red-purple striations and more solid colored at base, labellum with red-purple spots inside, staminode tip deep purple, shiny. Primary closed evergreen broad-leaved gnarled stunted forest along rocky ridge composed with solid marble-like highly eroded crystalline limestone at elevation 600-800 m a.s.l. Terrestrial and lithophytic rosulate herb on very steep slope and on shelves of vertical cliffs. Leaves dark green/whitish tessellated. Fairly common on top and around top of mountain.

N. Vietnam, prov. Cao Bang, distr. Bao Lac, municipality Yen Lac, vicinities of Yen Lac village (N 22ø44' E 105ø50'). Primary open broadleaved semideciduous forest on vertical cliffs of karst remnant limestone ridge of N exposition at 1300 m elev. Lithophyte herb on vertical cliffs. Central sepal, synsepal and lip olive green with brown tint, lateral petals dull purple with olive green-brownish base. Flowers odorless. Rare, but occasionally abundant.

Primary broad-leaved humid evergreen forest on very steep slopes and along rocky ridge composed with solid crystalline highly eroded limestone at elevation 1100-1150 m a.s.l. around point 22°38′07.1″N 105°19′22.1″E. Terrestrial and lithophytic rosulate herb on very steep rocky slopes and on cliffs near ridge edge. Leaves dark c/ light green tessellated. Not rare.
