Epigeneium chapaense Gagnep.

Ha Giang Prov., Bac Me Distr., Phieng Luong municipality, around Phieng Luong village. Primary broad-leaved humid evergreen forest on very steep slopes and along rocky ridge composed with solid crystalline highly eroded limestone at elevation 1100-1150 m a.s.l. around point 22°38’07.1’’N 105°19’22.1’’E. Epiphytic creeping herb on tall mossy trees along ridge edge. Flowers brown, lip white with brown marks. Abundant.

S. Vietnam, Prov. Ninh Thuan, distr. Ninh Son, municipalite Phuoc Binh in 34 km to NE from Dalat city. Closed primary wet broadleaved forest om E macroslope of Gia Rinh mt. ridge at 1700-1800 m alt. (N 12° 07', E 108° 42'). Epiphyte on high trees. Common.

Son La Prov., Van Ho Distr., Van Ho comm., Hua Tat village, around point 20°46’21.7N 104°47’47.5E.

Remnants of primary evergreen broad-leaved and mixed forest (with Pinus wangii) on very steep rocky slopes and on mountain tops composed with highly eroded karstic light gray marble-like limestone at elevation 1300-1350 m a.s.l.

Creeping epiphytic and lithophytic vine 2-3 m long. Flowers yellowish, lip dark violet to almost black. Abundant.

Primary evergreen broad-leaved and mixed forest with Pinus cernua on mountain tops and steep summit slopes composed with highly eroded red-brown sandstone at elevation 1400-1500 m a.s.l. around point 20°41’33.2N 104°37’37.0E.

Lithophytic and epiphytic creeping herb near mountain top. Sepals and petals pale yellowish, lip dark gray-violet. Common.

primary mossy forest with domination of Pseudotsuga brevifolia along

tops of remnant limestone karst ridge at elev 1200-1250 m a.s.l.

Lithophytic or epiphytic creeping vine up to 1 m lg. Flowers

odourless: tepals ochraceous, lip white, epichile deep purple-brown,

gypochile white with purple marks, also column at front; anther cap

white.

Vietnam, Ha Giang Prov., Quan Ba Distr, Can Ty Municipality, about 3 km to NWW of Quan Ba town, around point 23º05’49’’N, 105º00’28’’E at elevation about 1200 m a.s.l.

Primary mossy cloudy coniferous forest with Pseudotsuga sinensis on tops of high rocky ridge composed with highly eroded marble-like limestone along left side of Mien river.

Creeping lithophytic and epiphytic vine on mossy slope. Tepals light yellowish, lip yellow, purple-brown marked, with white base, column white. purple-pink striped, anther white. Very common. Co-dominant of herbaceous plant communities.

Remnants of dry mossy open coniferous forest with Pseudotsuga

brevifolia along tops of remnant limestone karst ridge at elev.

1250-1300 m a.s.l. Lithophyte and epiphyte vine 0.5-0.8 m long.

Flowers odourless: tepals ochraceous, lip white, epichile deep

purple-brown, gypochile white with purple marks, also column at front;

anther cap white. Abundant.

Terrestrial rosulate herb with short caudex. Flowers yellowish, pitches with purple-reddish nerves to pure red-purple. Not common.
