Paphiopedilum malipoense var. jackii (H.S.Hua) Aver.

N. Vietnam, Tuyen Quang prov., Na Hang distr., Thanh Tuong municipality, near Ban Bung village (22º16'26''N, 105º25'58''E). Primary broad-leaved evergreen very dry forest (with Burettiodendron hsienmu as a main dominant) near top of limestone ridge at elev. about 600 m a.s.l. Lithophyte herb on vertical rocky cliffs composed with slaty stratified limestone. Leaves light green with deep green venation and tessellation above, light green sparsely purple-violet finely spotted below. Flowers light yellowish-green, staminode white with small sparse purple marks. Locally common. Rare in the area due to strong overcollecting.

Broad-leaved (and former coniferous forest with Calocedrus rupestris) evergreen forest on steep slopes and on tops of ridge composed with rocky crystalline solid marble-like highly eroded limestone at elev. 900 m a.s.l. Lithophytic herb on shady cliff. Rare.

Primary evergreen seasonal broad-leaved and coniferous submontane forest on crystalline marble-like highly eroded limestone, very steep upper slopes and tops of limestone rocky ridge at elev. 800-850 m. Lithophytic rosette herb. Leaves uniform green. Not common.

Secondary open shrubs on steep slopes of karst remnant limestone mesae at 500-550 m elev. Paphiopedilum hirsutissimum full in flower also was observed here on inaccessible limestone cliffs of N exposition at about 500-550 m elev. Photo only.

Lithophyte herb on vertical cliffs of NW exposition. Flowers of typical coloration. Rare, but occasionally abundant.

Clustering lithophyte on mossy boulders and cliffs along rocky ridge edge. Not rare.

Primary open coniferous and mixed semideciduous forest (with Pinus kwangtungensis and Pseudotsuga brevifolia) along tops of remnant limestone ridge at 600-650 m alt. Epilite herb on vertical shadow cliffs of N and NW exposition. Rare. Most typical habitat are narrow shelves below overhanging bluffs. Certainly vanish due to degradation of primary vegetation.

Paphiopedilum hangianum H.Perner & O.Gruss

N. Vietnam, Tuyen Quang prov., Na Hang distr., Thanh Tuong municipality, near Ban Bung village (22º16'26''N, 105º25'58''E). Primary broad-leaved evergreen wet forest on very steep limestone slopes of highly eroded remnant limestone ridge at elev. 700-750 m a.s.l. Lithophyte herb on vertical limestone cliffs of N exposition. Rare due to hard total overcollecting. In the past locally very common.

Paphiopedilum hangianum Perner & Gruss

N.Vietnam, Bac Kan Prov., Cho Don Distr., Ban Thi Municipality, village Phia Khao, Lung Li valley, around point 22°16′10′'N, 105°31′01′'E, Cot Moc mountain at elevation 800-900 m a.s.l. Primary broad-leaved evergreen closed forest on very steep slopes and cliffs near tops of rocky ridge composed with solid marble-like stratified limestone. Lithophytic rosette herb on wet travertine deposits on large shady vertical cliff of W exposition at elevation about 850 m a.s.l. Flowers fragrant of typical coloration. Not common.

Paphiopedilum hangianum Perner et Gruss

Northern Vietnam, Tuyen Quang Prov., Na Hang Distr., Thuong Lam Municipality, Na Lau village, in the vicinity of point 22ø28'23''N, 105ø19'47''E. Primary evergreen seasonal broad-leaved forest on highly eroded remnant ridge composed with soft stratified limestone consolidated with numerous quartzite dikes at elev. 450-500 m a.s.l. Lithophytic herb on wet travertine deposited on vertical shady cliff. Primarily very common, usual co-dominante of lithophytic herb communities. Presently rare due to commercial collecting.
