Schoenorchis scolopendria Aver., sp.nov. Type

N. Vietnam, Thanh Hoa prov., Ba Thuoc distr., Co Lung municipality, territory of Pu Luong protected area, near Co Lung village (20°27′28′'N, 105°12′18′'E). Primary broad-leaved evergreen forest on tops of remnant highly eroded karst limestone ridge at elev. 550-600 m a.s.l. Creeping epiphyte on stem of old tree Pistacia veinmanniifolia. Rare. Flowers buds light violet.

Flowered in culture in 05 May 2001. Flowers odourless, sepals purple-violet, petals white, sidelobes and median lobe of the lip purple-violet, base of lip and spur white with purple-violet tint, anther brightly yellow. Median lobe on distal surface with two fleshy cushions separated by narrow cleft.
