FLORA OF VIETNAM Orchidaceae Juss. Paphiopedilum vietnamense O.Gruss & H.Perner
N. Vietnam, Thai Nguyen prov., Dong Hy distr., Tan Long municipality, vicinities of Mo Ba village (21°46′26′'N, 105°52′25′'E). Primary wet broad-leaved evergreen closed forest (with Burettiodendron hsienmu as a main dominant) on remnant highly eroded limestone ridge at elev. 400-550 m a.s.l. Lithophyte herb in crevices of shady deeply eroded rocks in middle part of ridge slope. Leaves glossy deep green - light green tessellated above, purple-violet spotted below. Flowers: median sepal and synsepal white with pink tint, lateral petals pale pink-purple, lip white with deep purple stripes and longitudinal spots, staminode white, at apex light yellow-greenish. Very rare due to total overcollecting (in the past locally common). HAL 031 14 March 2001 Collectors: P.K.Loc, N.X.Tam, L. Averyanov.
