N. Vietnam, prov. Cao Bang, distr. Nguyen Binh, municipality Ca Thanh, vicinities of Ta Phinh village (N 22ø44' E 105ø50'). Primary open semideciduous mixed mossy forest (with Pseudotsuga brevifolia, Tsuga chinensis and Pinus kwangtungensis) along tops of remnant karst limestone ridge at 1350-1400 m elev. Terrestrial and lithophyte herb on steep slopes and vertical bluffs, mostly of N exposition. Flowers odorless, petals purple or pink with yellow and deep purple stripes, central petal sometimes yellow with pale purple stripes; lip white with scarlet at the base and margin. Not rare, occasionally abundant.
