Hanoi Capital Region, Ba Vi National Park, humid mossy primary and secondary evergreen broad-leaved forest on steep mountain slopes composed by solid shale at elevation of 1100-1300 m a.s.l. along trail to peak of 1296 m. Terrestrial rhizomatous herb with erect rigid leaves to 1.5 m long on steep shady slope. Flowers dark purple-violet to almost black. Not rare.
