Talbotiella cheekii Burgt. Leguminosae-Detarioideae. Isotype. Guinea-Conakry, Coyah Prefecture, along stream between villages Saliya and Yataraya. LatLong: 9 45'23.7' N; 13 15'41.4'' W. Alt: 120 m. Strip of forest along rocky stream with flat bedrock slabs, bordered by farmland.
Tree, 12 m high, stem 82 cm diameter at 0.5 m. Stem fluted, low branches. Leaflets 1-2 glands, placed on lower part of top half of leaflet. Flower pedicel red, sparse long hair; 2 bracteoles, white, (sub-)opposite, 10-12 x 1 mm, glabrous with a few hairs at apex; hypanthium red, 4 sepals white, glabrous; no petals at all; 10 stamens, filaments white, glabrous; ovary dark red. Flowers scented, attracting insects. Only 3 flowering trees seen along this section of the stream. In nearby forest patches along rocky streams, the tree is common. In total 1200 to 1600 trees were seen in September 2016 and April 2017, in 6 forest patches; extent of occurrence of 47 km. The largest tree seen was 21 m high and 83 cm stem diameter, with a fluted stem branching into 3 nearly vertical branches at 2.5 m high. Wood has a high density. A pole made from the wood can be used as a pestle to pound food in a mortar. Vernacular name: Linsonyi, language: Susu (Sousou). X.M. van der Burgt 2084.
