Bac Kạn Province, Ba Be District, near Cao Thuợng, 22°27'4"N, 105°34'3"E, at 630 m, growing on a very steep unsteady loose limestone mountain, covered by primary broad leaved evergreen forest in occasional patches of soil, with very few other herbaceous plants apart from the occasional small plants of Peliosanthes sp., a terrestrial perennial herbaceous plant arising from strong almost woody subterranean rhizomes, to foliage that is unusually stiff and fairly thick of a very dark green colour, appearing blackish from a distance, sometimes spotted on young leaves, the foliage was also distinctly smaller (aprox. 20 x 7 cm) than other collections gathered at a lower altitude, accompanied by seed on several plants and even a flower on one plant, 9 December 2018, Bleddyn Wynn-Jones, BWJ 16249, BWJ 162250.
