Ha Giang Prov., Quan Ba Distr., Cao Ma Po Commune, Then Van 1 Village, Binh Mountain, around point 23.09452ºN 104.84831ºE, steep rocky slopes composed with highly eroded limestone at elevation 1400–1600 m a.s.l. Remnants of primary evergreen broad-leaved very humid forest with plantation of “wild-grown” Amomum. Terrestrial, lithophytic or occasionally epiphytic herb to 1 m tall on steep rocky slope. From closest M.ovalifolia new species differs in glabrous leaves with cuneate base (vs. leaveswith rounded to subcordate base, hairy on both surfaces) and pendulous, manybranched, many flowered inflorescence bearing normally at least 30 flowers ormore (vs. inflorescence erect with 3-12 flowers).
