Primary broad-leaved evergreen closed forest on very steep slopes and cliffs near tops of rocky ridge composed with solid marble-like stratified limestone. Lithophytic fern on vertical cliffs. Very common.

Lithophytic fern on wet travertine deposits on vertical shady cliff. Occasional.

Primary broad-leaved evergreen closed and coniferous (with Pinus kwangtungensis) forest on very steep slopes and cliffs along tops of rocky ridge composed with solid marble-like stratified limestone. Terrestrial and lithophytic fern. Very common.

Lithophytic fern on steep slopes and on cliffs near mountain top. Very common.

Heavily logged primary closed broad-leaved evergreen lowland forest along La Ma River on very steep hill slopes composed with clayey shale at elevation about 300-450 m a.s.l. Woody fern up to 8 m tall. Very common. Usual co-dominant on wet slopes.

Northern Vietnam, Lao Cai Prov., Van Ban Distr., Khanh Yen Ha municipality, to the SW of Na Nheo village (in the vicinity of point 21ø57'41''N, 104ø13'29''E). Primary evergreen broad-leaved and mixed montane forests (with Fokienia hodginsii) along granite and quartzite ridge at elev. 2000-2100 m a.s.l. Terrestrial and lithophytic fern on open mossy rocky cliffs (especially in cliff crevices under hanging rocks). Locally common.

Lithophytic fern on steep rocky slope. Not common.

Lithophytic and terrestrial fern on very steep rocky mossy slope. Very common.
