Secondary broad-leaved evergreen submontane forest on shale mountains. Seedlings and saplings up to 2.5 m tall (of tree that reach 25 m tall) along rocky shady stream valley. Locally common.

Primary evergreen seasonal broad-leaved closed submontane forest on basalt at elev. 1500-1550 m. Tree up to 40 m tall and 1.6 m in diam. Common. Occasional co-dominant of 1 forest stratum.

Vietnam, Quang Binh Prov., Bo Trach Distr., Tan Trach Municipality, about 0.5 km to E of A Rem village (17º23'32''N, 106º12'46''E). Primary closed coniferous forest (with Calocedrus rupestris) on steep slopes and on tops of rocky ridge composed with solid marble-like highly eroded solid crystalline limestone at elevation about 750-850 m a.s.l. Tree up to 25 m tall and 0.5 m in diam. Occasional co-dominant of first forest stratum on steep slopes near tops of ridge.

Very common on mountain slopes near top and on tops at elevations 1200-1300 m. Occasional co-dominant of the forest near mountain summit.

Primary evergreen broad-leaved and mixed forest on W macroslope at elevation from 500 m to the mountain top elevated to 1425 m. Tree about 15 m tall and 40 DBH on shady stream slopes at elevation 1000-1100 m. Seedling common, large trees rare (cutting in the past extensively for timber sale).

Lithophytic rosulate herb on open rocky outcrops and cliffs. Locally very common.

Wet closed secondary broad-leaved forest on very steep slopes of A Nor stream composed with shale and granite. Lithophyte on open rocky cliffs of waterfall. Locally very common.
