N. Vietnam, Prov. Cao Bang, distr. Tra Linh, municipalite Quoc Toan,

vicinity of Thang Heng and Lung Tao villages near Thang Heng lake. Open dry primary mixed forest with domination of Keteleeria fortunei on

tops of limestone mesas and ridges at 700-950 m alt.

Epiphytic and epilitic shrublet on open dry forest and on open rocks

near and on tops of mesas. Flowers yellow, tepals with purple-brown

marks, lip yellow with purple-violet center. Not rare.

Primary coniferous forest with Pseudotsuga sinensis along highly eroded rocky limestone ridge at elevation about 1400 m a.s.l. Epiphyte on mossy trees in shady places. Flowers white, sometime with light pink tint. Not rare.

Vietnam, Ha Giang Prov., Quan Ba Distr, about 2 km to the NE of Quan Ba town, around point 23º05’49’’N, 105º01’00’’E at elevation about 1150 m a.s.l.

Primary coniferous forest with Calocedrus rupestris, Callitropsis vietnamensis and Pseudotsuga sinensis on rocky highly eroded marble-like limestone remnant mountains.

Epiphyte on shady wet mossy slope. Tepals white, lip side-lobes yellow with purple-brown stripes, lip white , epichile at the base with purple marks. Not rare.

Primary evergreen broadleaved closed forest on steep slopes of remnant limestone ridge at 300-450 m alt. Epiphyte. Flowers odourless, white; gypochile yellow with brown stripes, base of white epichile with yellow and purple keels. Not rare.

N. Vietnam, prov. Cao Bang, distr. Bao Lac, municipality Yen Lac, vicinities of Yen Lac village (N 22ø44' E 105ø50'), about 44 km to NWW from Cao Bang town. Primary broadleaved forest remnants along stream on alluvial walley among limestone ridges at 1100 m alt. Epiphyte. Flowers: tepals white with purple-violet tint near the tips; lip: gypochile yellow with purple-brownish stripes and spots, epichile white, at the base with central yellow spot and with violet-purple side spots and marks. Not too rare.

Ha Giang Prov., Bac Me Distr., Phieng Luong municipality, around Phieng Luong village. Primary broad-leaved humid evergreen forest on very steep slopes and along rocky ridge composed with solid crystalline highly eroded limestone at elevation 1100-1150 m a.s.l. around point 22°38’07.1’’N 105°19’22.1’’E. Epiphytic herb on mossy trees along ridge edge. Flower white to very light pink, lip with purple marks. Common.

Epiphyte. Very rare at elevations 1400 m.

Holcoglossum phongii (Aver.) Aver.

(=Aerides phongii Aver.) Type

Southern Vietnam, Ninh Thuan Prov., Bac Ai Distr., in heavily disturbed primary seasonal tropical broad-leaved lowland woodland on silicate rocky slope. Branch epiphyte on old tree. Rare.

Plants were collected and offered for sale on local market by local collectors in February - March 2014, type specimen was purchased by Nguyen Phong at early March 2014.

Flowered under cultivation in private garden in Hanoi, collected at 12 March 2014 by Nguyen Phong and Phan Ke Loc P-11235

Vientiane Prov., Kasi Distr., Thong Mout village, around point 19°26’51.5”N 102°07’45.8”E. Primary broad-leaved evergreen forest on very steep rocky slopes and on vertical cliffs of remnant highly eroded rocky limestone mountains composed by solid crystalline stratified limestone at elevation 1550-1650 m. Epiphyte on mossy trees on shady rocky slope. Along small stream. Not common.

Epiphyte on tall mossy trees. Not rare.
