Terrestrial herb or undershrub to 1.5 m tall on steep wet shady stream slope. Fruits brightly red. Occasional.

Primary broad-leaved evergreen forest with Pinus cernua, Fokienia hodginsii and bamboo on eroded red-brown sandstone near mountain top at elevation 1350 m a.s.l. around point 20°41’36.4N 104°37’46.6E. Tree to 20 m tall and 30 cm in diam. Large trees – rare, Seedlings and saplings – common.

Tree to 15 m tall and 25 cm in diam. Locally common.

Remnants of primary broad-leaved evergreen forest on tops of hills composed with karstic highly eroded yellow-white limestone at elevation 1150-1250 m a.s.l. Old trr on steep rocky slope near mountain top. Not common.

S.Vietnam, Ninh Thuan Prov., Ninh Hai Distr., Vinh Hai Municipality, E slopes on Nui Chua mountains to NNE of point 11o43'52''N 109o08'35''E at elev. about 600-700 m a.s.l. Primary evergreen dry forest on steep rocky mountain slopes composed with granite. Died tree about 1.5 m in diam. It was found about 10 died samples, but no one still alive. Timber collected only.

Primary mixed cloud forest with Fokienia hodginsii on peaks of Bi Dup ridge at 2150 m alt. in 1.5 km to N from main peak of mt system (N 12° 06', E 108° 39'). Tree 12-15 m hg. Dodominante of 1 forest stratum.

Son La Prov., Thuan Chau Distr., Co Ma Municipality, Hua Ty village, Copia nature reserve, around point 21º20’07’’N 103º35’07’’E. Remnants of broad-leaved (former coniferous with Fokienia hodginsii) primary and secondary forest on steep slopes and on tops of ridge composed with clay shale at elev. 1500-1600 m a.s.l. Tree about 15 m tall. Presently not common. Former co-dominant of coniferous forest with trees uo to 2 m in diam.

Occasional co-dominant of the forest along ridges.

Primary broad-leaved evergreen closed forest on very steep slopes and cliffs near and on tops of rocky ridge composed with solid marble-like stratified limestone. Tree 10-15 m tall on tops of ridge. Not common mono-dominant of

coniferous forest (with Fokienia hodginsii) on some peaks of the ridge.

Treelet 4-5 m tall on very steep mossy rocky slope near ridge edge and on mountain tops. Common.

Terrestrial herb to 1.5 m tall among open wet rocks along stream. Flowers white, fragrant. Occasional.

Primary very humid broad-leaved forest with Cunninghamia konishii as emergent on steep mountain slopes composed of gray shale at elevation 2100-2200 m a.s.l. around point 19°13’52.9’’N 104°05’30.5’’E. Tree 40-45 m tall and to 1.5 m dbh. Forest emergent and occasional forest dominant (particularly in the past). Giant, majestic tree with very fragrant timber. Widely logging.

Heavily logged primary closed evergreen broad-leaves forest on steep slopes of rocky ridge composed with solid marble-like highly eroded stratified crystalline limestone at elevation about 650-750 m a.s.l. Tree about 10 m tall and 0.6 m in diam. Common dominant of first forest stratum on tops of ridge.

Primary mixed broad-leaved and coniferous forest with Pinus latteri and P. krempfii along ridge edge. Young treelet 10 14 m (tree up to 25-30 m tall which looks were totally logged). Occasional.
